AGH!!

okay, my poor boy's had finrot since i brought him home about 2 months ago. first i treated with Triple Sulfa. it didnt work. so i bought melafix and salt, and it seemed to be working, or at least stopping the rot -- and then he got ick!

so i treated the ick, and now that seems to be gone, and i'm back on the fin rot. been treating with maracyn, melafix and salt. it doesnt seem to be working at all... his fins arent regrowing, and i'm not sure if they're still receeding or not.

but no! that couldnt possibly be the end of his illnesses, my luck says there had to be more. so naturally, now he's got a big bump just above his top lip, sort of between his eyes. it's maybe a third of a centimeter in diameter, but it's gotten bigger since yesterday.

what the hell is it?! my god, i've never seen anything like this, and it's gotten kind of hideous.

he's still active, he still eats like a pig, and his color isnt any paler or brighter than when i brought him home. he's in a 5 gallon tank with mechical, chemical and biological filtration (i took out the carbon when i started medicating him), the tank is fully cycled, and i do 20% water change twice a week unless otherwise directed by his many medications.

so he's still got fin rot, and now a big ol' bump. i'm really worried about my poor boy... :-( he's only got about a centimeter of tail left, and his dorsal fin is starting to go as well, and if this bump gets much bigger it's going to start hindering his eating.

someone please help me. :-(

Is it the betta in the 5 gallon that's sick?

If I were you,I would take the tank apart and scrub it with salt and hot water. It may be something yucky in there. I would make a clean start,I'm assuming this is a betta. Clean water to heal fin rot is 100% necessary. When I get a case of fin rot,I change 100% of the water right away, scrub the tank, and then put him back and medicate. Every other day I repeat. It clears up in less than 5 days that way for me.

Heather, you'll know this better than I do, but shouldn't they be using bettamax and not melefix?
