one of my ember tetra's has turned super aggressive over the last 24 hrs.

i have a 40ltr planted tank that had

4 small (youth) mollies
2 platy's
4 galaxy rasbora
4 ember tetra
4 cory's

last week the 4 mollies went to a new home
sunday night the 2 platy's went to a new home

i noticed after the mollies left that all my fish swam around more in the open
once the platy's left they spent even more time in the open.

last night i watched one ember chase all other fish out of area say 6"x6"x6" in the middle of the tank. i have never seen anything like it, super aggressive. all of a sudden my other fish are in hiding.

any idea's on what would cause this, i assumed it was because the big fish have gone and now its the biggest fish in the tank.

It sounds as if your alpha fish has left the tank, and the ember tetra has assumed the role. Tetras need to be in groups of 6+, and upping their numbers may resolve this issue for you.

think you may be right, i watched it do the same thing last night. it seems to be after they have been fed, like he is clearing everything else out of the way in case more food drops in.

i don't have the space for any more fish so the tetra's may have to go
