Ok, got myself a few Neons today (itended on Cardinals but they looked very dodgy), had them in the tank for a few hours, ate well then a few starting acting strangely towards each other. Some started to zip around one another very fast? Almost like chasing each others tails in very close quaters? I cant really explain it and videos from my phone are about as clear as a big foot sighting. To hazard a guess would you say aggression or spawning? None seemed harmed so either way its not too bad but id like to know :)

Thanks

Pecking order to me.

Ok ta :) might get a few more in future, see if that helps atall.

Yep this is normal tetra "Sparring" to decide pecking order. Not all tetras do this but I have seen neons do it and my silvertips do it all the time. They dont seem to hurt each other and it is amazing to watch them as the move extremely fast.

They tend to stay about about an 1-2 inchs apart and are side on to each other (and make like a shuddering movement). They will then dart towards each other and vear away before they make contact). This will normally happen a few times before the "weaker" one swims away. More fish will mean that you dont get one or two getting picked on though.

Spawning behaviour with most tetras is different. Normally what you will get is the female racing around the tank with one (or more) males chasing behind her and rubbing up against their sides.
