Hi there,

Trying to breed flowerhorn pair. I have kept them together since one week.

Male is double the size of female. I don't see any fighting or aggression there.

But can notice torn lips of the female. But keep observing.... they never fight or bite each other.

Am confused whether to go ahead with the breeding process or isolate them......

I am not a flowerhorn expert, but aren't most male flowerhorns infertile (sterile) like Blood Parrots? I have also heard that you should take precautions breeding them, as the male can become very aggressive.

They recommend using 40-50 gal breeder tanks with a clear divider as to separate the male and female.  The divider will have a whole just large enough for the female to pass through, but the male cannot get through.  This will allow the female to retreat.  I think a clay dish or saucer is left with the male...

Thanks Fish Fanatic for you response.

Now, I can see the eggs in the tank and the female protecting them.
Also, the female has become aggressive towards the male, whereas the male
somehow manages to be near the eggs once in a while.

Now, what should be the next step in this process ?
Should I remove male or female from the tank or let them take care of it.....
