My boyfriend just got 2 african dwarf frogs yesterday (well they are 'my frogs' but his pets...ish).

They are both ADFs as they have 4 webbed feet (they are sooooooooooo cute). I wanted to take the little one home (however we found a second one in the shop so he has kept them). Anyway, to the point - just wondering how often we should feed them; and roughly how much they should eat? Fed them yesterday night and they were little piggies; they had nice rounded bellies afterwards (they were so thin in the shop). They had mini-bloodworms yesterday; probably about 7-8 each; is this ok, is it too much, is it too little?

I've suggested feeding every other day at the minute (from what I read online but I want to check first).

They are in a 4.5 gallon tank at the minute with 6 zebra danio fry; however they'll be moved to an 8 gallon tank when the fry get bigger and then the fry will be moved to a larger tank; so the frogs will be in alone :)

They should be fed a varied diet a combination of catfish, cichlid and flake food was what I used in my tank as a staple with 3 times a week treat of live: daphnia, bloodworms (frogs go crazy for them) and mosquito larvae with frozen occasionally used. They also like finely chopped prawns and as the following photo shows they are partial to other things:

They will also eat there own and each others skin sometimes whilst it is still attached, if there is no major size difference then they should have no issues.

Also how long do they live for?

One is smaller than the other but not by much; but I fed them yesterday at opposite ends of the tank so they were ok.

I can't see the picture but I'll look at it when I get home.

They will also eat fry if the fry are silly enough to get too close to them!

Also, make sure the tank water isn't too deep as they need to reach the surface for air regularly and are not great swimmers, especially when young, and some do struggle reaching the top.

The water is probably about 9-10" deep. Is that too deep?

I did say that to my boyfriend but he said he isn't bothered if they eat the fry :( *poor things*. Besides once he gets a heater for his largest tank his "middle set of baby fish" will be moving up into the larger tank and the frogs will move into their tank :)

hey i dont know how i missed this but congrats on your new babies!!!

click the last link in my signature and it will take you to a site with lots of info on the lil guys!

The frogs are tiny still. We saw some in the same shop and they were little porkers lol.

I think they ate 2 of the tiny (possibly runted) fry in the tank. But otherwise the other bigger 4 are doing well. I haven't seen them for a couple of weeks but I'll hopefully see them at the weekend :)
