African Dwarf Frogs Acting Strange...

I have two in their own tank (kirmy, and smacks!-the frog from the cereal! haha) and have had them for awhile, and the first few days they were extremely active always swimming! Then i cleaned their tank the other day, and it seems as though kirmy, is ALWAYS hiding in the SAME spot....and when it goes to get air it DARTS down as fast as it can and goes to the same spot to hide...that normal?

any ideas why their acting like that would be helpful!

and their water is the same temp, and water is all normal, same as it was before, only thing different is i changed around the plants and the terracotta pots

some bog standard questions- have you tested the water, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite? They are quite big waste producers for little guys, which will add to the ammonia in the water. Also, what are you feeding them, and how often? If its bloodworms, you need to make sure you gravel vac otherwise the worms they havent eaten will decompose and again, this will add to the ammonia.

Ammonia is very dangerous to frogs and fish, so you need to make sure you arent over feeding and you deal with what they havent eaten.

Initally, I would suggest you test the water, if its of dangerous levels, scoop the frogs into a sealable container (or they will jump for freedom!) and do a proper gravel vac (or maybe even wash the tank/gravel fully), do not use any cleaners in the tank as the residue will kill them, so just use good old tap water!! make sure you keep the filter (if you have one, and if you havent you are then in a 'fish in' cycle) in some old tank water.

oh and the whole 'darting for air' thing is pretty normal...they like to hide and only go for air when necessary.

That sounds like normal froggy behavior to me.

yeah i think im going to get the water tested to be safe, and they are actually being a little more active again, so thats good. I also might add a ghost shrimp to help clean up the few bloodworms i miss when i take the ones out that they dont eat
