Hello everyone,

I recently purchase an African Dwarf Frog and I wanted to ask a few questions about him. I am not sure what to feed the little guy? My LFS told me he will eat regular fish food but I am not sure they are correct. Please help me. I dont want to starve my little frog!

Thanks! :D

Hi Mollybreeder :)

First let me ask you if you are sure it is actually an African Dwarf Frog and not the commonly found African Clawed Frog. If it is a dwarf, it will have webbing between its "hands." If it is an African Clawed Frog, it will clearly have little pointy fingers. Both have webbing on their back claws, so don't pay that any mind.

I feed my ADFs live blackworms and they thrive on them. Some of them escape and live in the gravel and they eat them when they feel like it. I also feed them a product made by HBH called "Frog and Tadpole Bites." These are tiny pellets made just for little creatures like them.

Here's a link to a thread that has lots of information about aquatic frogs:

My ADFs eat live blackworms and frozen bloodworms. I've tried feeding them the HBH Frog & Tadpole Bites, but they won't even touch them.

Mine eat tubifex worms that I hand feed to them.
They also eat any extra fish food at the bottom of the tank.
When I drop a bottom feeder pellot in the tank, often I see them hovering over top of the pellot amongst a sworm of guppies, mollies, playt's, cory's, and siamese flying fox's taking little nips at the pellot, actually "chasing" off the, in most cases, much larger fish.
(now you know why I hand feed em)
They can handle their own for a little frog thats 'fer sure!
