Hi people,

I've recently just bought four african dwarf frogs. I am aware that they may not eat much within the first week of being added to a new aquarium, but they are not eating. They share the tank with other fish and I feed them just normal flakes, and then afterwards feed the frogs bloodworms, but the fish eat them all first, and the few that do sink to the bottom, it seems like the frogs aren't interested. I've heard of putting the bloodworms in a jar, and then the frogs will go inside, and the fish can't get to them, but the second I put the jar in, the bloodworms spill out and the fish eat them.

I've also tried Nutrafin's Sinking complete food tablets, and even when I put them right in front of them they still don't eat. Is it because they are still getting used to the tank? Please help.

Regards

George

Heres a few solutions:
Fish can eat food a lot faster then a normal dwarf frog. Get some small terra cotta pot and burry half of it into the gravel, leaving enough showing for dwarf frogs to crawl under, but too big for a fish. Dwarf frogs love little hidy holes! Put the food in there and watch them for a bit. You can buy the little terra cotta pots for about 50 cents at your local craft store.
Another idea: try putting the food in a little bowl at the bottom of the tank behind some plants or something, usually were the frogs congregate.
Try this, it might work! Good luck.

They may be a little stressed or they might just be full give them a day or two to settle in they wont starve unless they are sick if in a day or two their not looking around the gravel with their noses down you might have a prob., but i wouldnt worry just yet. I feed mine with a turkey baster when the fish are eating I suck some water and bloodworms up in the baster put my finger on the end then put it down where the frogs are dont worry if their hungry they will eat.Ps the above post is a great idea might try that myselfthanks Shuifish

I was told about putting the blood worms on a plate, so that the blood worms doesn't sink into the gravel, because frogs don't hunt for their food, but when I put the plate in, the bloodworms just float off, even when still in a block, and I can't get them to sink, so the fish get to them, there's something I'm obviously doing wrong, but I don't know what.

Thanks for the reply.

i would suggest putting them into there own tank and lower the water level to one linch. i dont think thet eat flakes it seems too flat and small try pellets.

I use a pippet from a water test kit. I suck up the defrosted worms and then dsquirt them directly in front of them. The beauty of the pippette as apposed to a larger turkey baster is it allows alot of control over how fast the worms are let out. My frogs will eat worms right out of the end.
