I am currently interested in getting an african butterfly fish. The tank I wantto put him into contains 2 newts, 5 corys and 5 mid sized cichlids. Will he be safe in this company or should I get a pair or none? I also have a tank with 10 discus what kind of an oddball could i put in there. It is a 180 litre.

Depends on the Cichlids, I kept Butterfly fish in a group, 1 male to 2 or 3 females, this worked quite well. I dont know much about Discus other than they are a bit soft and poncy when it comes to tank mates. The Butterfly fish will sit on the tank surface all the time but will benefit from some nice flating cover.

Butterfly fish are awsme tank mates , theyre compatbile with most fish as long as 1 - the tank mates are big enough to eat it and 2 the tanks mates are small enough to be eaten. Mine's in with a bunch of fish and its fine the oscar doesnt bother it not the Polypterus sp i have in the tank. just make sure you have floating food and some floating plants for cover.
