I had family round on Sunday (New Years Day) and my butterfly fish was fine (I showed him to everyone) but today my other half noticed that he was really skinny below his jaw (around his gills) and I also think around his abdomen. Water tests show water around 7.6 to 8pH, 14oD general hardness (GH) 6oD to 10oD KH and 50 NO3 (all mg per litre).
I fed him tonight and kept a close eye on him and he didnt eat: not flake, brine shrimp or tubifex. I first thought he had had a chunk took out of him coz he's that skinny but he hasn't. It's worrying that he let me catch him though and he was fine just floating in my hand while I inspected him where normally he nearly jumps the tank.
I would be surprised if he lasted the night.
I replaced the plant food end of November and change the water every weekend. Any ideas whats killing him. What is life expectancy?
