I have an African Dwarf frog and for the past few days he's been laying on his backand then I'll have to flipp him over with the net just to make sure he's alive! He still is alive but why is he laying belly up? And know I've noticed he's starting to like shed his skin or something but there's like mucus stuff hanging on his stomach. What do I do and what's wrong with him?

Sometimes ADFs "zone out" and fall on their backs. Usually, if you leave them alone they'll get back up after a few minutes or so. Also, ADFs regularly shed their skin. However, if what he's shedding looks cottony, it may be a fungus. I'd check around on some sites about ADFs to find out more.

ok I'm not sure if its cottony or just skin. What should it look like if its skin?

I'm not really sure how to describe it, so here's a picture I found in a Google search:

Usually, the frogs will eat their shed skin, and will sometimes use their claws to pull it off.

Perhaps you could get pictures? It might help in determining what's going on with your little froggy.

Alright I'll try to get some pictures but I know he is shedding skin from the picture you found. Thank you that was a big help.

OK I got a few pictures. I was feeding my frog and I gave him his food and it sinks so when I dropped it in it hit him on the foot and he freaked out and flipped onto his back? Is he like handicapped and he tipped over or is that what you were talking about "getting into the zone"?
This is him normally before I fed him. I think he finished shedding though.

Any other advice like why he flips upside down. He just doesn't seem to be himself anymore. He doesn't float or try to hide in the plants and in the hut I have. What's wrong with him?

Hm. I'm not sure. Perhaps being hit with the food stunned him? Usually, when they "zone out" they freeze and slowly fall backwards.

If he's still in a tank with others, you could try to quarantine him. He doesn't look like anything is physically wrong with him, at least.

How long did he stay on his back? And how's he doing now?

He only does the back thing for a little bit. I'm not sure exactly how long but I know that when I checked on him a half an hour later he was fine and back right side up.

I just started noticing he only likes that one spot its the right front side of my tank. Is that strange or just what he prefers?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I'd do some digging through old posts and see if you can find anything about ADFs zoning out frequently and only in one spot.

Although, if he only does it for a little while, I don't think I'd worry too much about him. :) If he's otherwise normal and healthy, it might just be one of those little unexplainable quirks.
