I've got a CO2 unit in my aquarium. I've been told that I can't run that and an airstone at the same time, but my question is really - can I run CO2 in the day, and the airstone overnight?

Will this provide enough aeration for the fish in the day?

Will this cause too much of a change in the ph of the water?

I'd like to get it sorted now, as I have few fish in the tank after an evil nitrite spike last weekend, and I don't plan on adding new fish for another 2-3 weeks while I keep a monitor on the water conditions, which are currently back to normal.

Thanks.

Why do you want to run a airstone at night?

Of course it can be done that way, you just have to disconect the co2 and switch on the airpump but i cant see why you would want to unless the tank is way overstocked.

It was a recommendation from someone!

I'm not overstocked - currently I have a 48" x 12" x 18" tank with 7 fish in it - all but 2 under 2 inches!!!!

Thanks!

No need for a airstone or switching the co2 off then :)

Airstones are only really needed if 1) You have fish that need still water so the filter dosent provide the surface aggitation needed, 2) Have a filter that dosent provide sufficient water circulation, or 3) If you are using strong medications which affect o2 levels in the tank so extra aeration is required. Other than that they are just a pretty decoration.

>>> just a pretty decoration

And that's a matter of opinion! You don't need it, but if you like the unnatural site of a stream of bubbles - well feel free!!

:lol: :lol: i know what you mean, thats why i dont use airstones in my tanks :lol:
