Im looking at getting some rays and have been advised by a shop not to go with scobina or hystrix as these are hard to keep for a first pair I should get a pair of motoro. Now my tank at present is a 5x2x2 with a 12" aro and 4 silver tigs. Im using this to grow out the fish and they will then move to a 6x30x24 so I was looking at rays I could keep in this tank and have been told motoro would be fine so im just looking for some confirmation on this please.

Well, although motoro may be the easyiest ray to keep, females can reach 26" and males around 18-20" (excluding tails)and with a 30" wide tank... i think its abit to small. you could maybe do an aggrement with your lfs etc. to get 3 motoro rays, and then return them for 3 scobinas as hystrix may be fake as there not alowed to be exported from brazil.

Good luck :)

not an expert on rays but i think that if you get juvenliles, they may be fine temporarily. when will the other bigger tank be ready?

yes i keep rays and the shop is talking crap no ray is any harder to take care of than another

they are telling you to buy motoro because thats probably all they can get

to get some idear how big a motoro will get go out side and look at the wheels on a car with the tyre thats how big a motoro will get if you think you have a tank big enought to put that car wheel in or upgrade to a tank that size within the next 3yrs then buy a motoro

i have seen you tank and if you want to keep rays of any type in it you will need to remove all the stuff on the tank vase plastic pland rocks

i feel you have added enought fish lattly and it must be having a big impact on the bio load

The tank was already heavily stocked with cichlids. I only have that stuff in there untill I get the rays. at the moment its a 5x2x2 but I AM getting a 72x30x24 in August / September so that is the tank that the rays will be in so I was looking for a pair of rays that I could keep in this tank that I could get hold of. Oh and btw the shop that suggested the motoro was maidenhead in st albans. but it was not James as he is on holiday.

if you want a nice cheap pair of rays why not buy the pair from canes shop they are a good price £180 the pair i think

they have been in the shop for some time and are fat and health

hears a pic of my rays but something like this is going to cost you £500+

I think I may it was only cause st Albans told my wife that they are hard to keep and a prone to infections.

Yeah your rays are stunning T1 I just want a nice pair that I could house comfortably in a 72x30x24.

i agree with richard all rays have the same basic needs which are clean water, plenty of room and food
you could keep a pair of motoro in there for a good year but they will soon start to make tank look small
cant you push it to 7ft long?

Fraid not longest I can fit is 72 and I convinced the wife to let me have by 30 and I got a quote from the people who made your tank. So ill be ordering that next month. All I really want is to be able to house a nice pair of rays in there for life or am I not gonna be able to?

you should be ok with a male motoro in their but females grow much bigger

my tank is 32 wide and my female is 14inch disk althugh she looks ok a 36inch wide tankl would be better

so i would say an 16-18inch male motoro would be way to big for a 30inch wide

the pair of rays at my work would suit that tank for life
and they are a nice healthy pair,i will get you some pics tomorrow if you want :good:
