I have got a "fish4life" tank with built in filter and light. Unfortunatly they are both on one power supply. Im going away for 3 days, this Sunday and I dont know how to fit a timer to the light  or else the light will be off for 3 days or the filter will get switched off with the light :/
Help not sure what to do :(

thanks :*

Not sure if this will help. But I know that some all in one tanks have low voltage connectors fitted seperately to the filter and the light. These are like the connectors that you get on universal transformers (like the type sold in Argos). If it does, then all you need to do, is find out the voltage that the light runs at (probably 12V dc) and then buy a universal transformer with the correct connector for the light. Plug the transformer into a timer, the light into the transformer (set the transformer to the correct voltage) and away you go.

Hi. Without getting too technical (as in the above post) there probably isn't a good solution for you. You need to have the filter on so if you can't control the lights separately then you can't really put them on a timer. Maybe you could set up another light outside the tank so that it shines into the tank and put that on the timer for the few days you are away? Do you have live plants that need the lights? If not then your fish probably won't care that the lights aren't on for a few nights.

Thanks to both of you for your help :thanks:
I got an adapter that could do it, but didnt really want to start chopping all the wires up in the tank, as the fittings were different ie male female conectors :hyper:
So ive gone with getting another light to light the tank, on a timer :good:
Thing is with my tank its like a really tall upright one and it doesnt have a see through top, so Ive removed the top flap that you use to feed the fishes and replaced it with a glass panel, so I can shine the lamp in there.
