Advice Please Read

Hi you may have read my earlier post explaining how i inherited an aquarium... anyway i have now got a 5ft tank with about 10 fish 2 cat fish, 4 medium sized tiger striped fish and 5 small sized white fish with horizontal black stripes. anyway i was wondering how many fish is optimal and also the best suited possible additions.. over time of course. I transported 40 percent of the water (no mean feat) lol and added the dechloronised water this morning (12 hours ago)

I would like a couple of schools of smaller fish and then some mixed mediujm sized fish, who can reproduce fairly easily...

I appreciate any advice u guys may have.

yeah the filtration unit is an eheim professional 2, i was asking in general about the fish i mean i know i can´t introduce any for the time being

But the point people are trying to make is that there is much more to owning a tank than just adding more fish.

When you moved the tank you may have interupted the cycle to the point where you now have ammonia and nitrite in the water... very bad for the fish.
If you're unsure what cycling is then I suggest reading the topic in my signature titled 'what is cycling'.

Hopefully seeing as it was an external filter the bacteria will have stayed moist enough in transit to avoid too much die off. But we'll need some water test results to back that up (like doresy asked for).

Also there is the fact that there is no point us suggesting fish for your tank without knowing EXACTLY what is already in the tank(as walkers said).
For example.... a 5ft tank could sometimes house an oscar cichlid (depends on dimensions of the tank). But by the sounds of it if we suggested that then it'd probably eat all your current fish...

It sounds like you have...
4 Tiger barbs?
5 Zebra danios?
2 catfish? What type? There are alot of differet ones...

As walkers said, pics would be very very useful!

thanks for the welcome to the forum,ive ordered a testing kit online, to test for all the water conditions, i understand i may of come across too bullish (asking about fish and stuff) i assure you im not i just want what is best for the little guys. I understand it was a big responsiblity to take on and i am doing all the research and stuff. i am just saying they were all going to be flushed down the toilet if no one would take em, i did i´m a little inexperienced and i´m seeking your help

I don't think you came across too bullish at all. We just need to make sure you know that there is more to owning a tank than literally owning a tank lol.

For example all you've asked about is fish, but as we don't know all that much about your previous fish experience etc it's best to cover all possible angles just to be sure!

So we can't just go ahead saying 'go buy these fish' without knowing quite a few details first. Aswell as making sure what we're suggesting is suitable for your situation.

we still don't know what fish you have for sure. if you google the fish Curiosity101 posted do these match your fish? and could you upload pics so we can see what you have if you aren't sure (and of the catfish)?

i´m not really sure where i can upload the pics to , just taken a few.... u guys have rapid share? also appreciate you taking the time out, when i was back in britain a few year ago had a smaller aquarium with tetras, mollys and guppys i think

If you click on an image (on photobucket) you should see a few details about it on the right hand side. You want to click on 'url' and it should say 'copied' in yellow.

Then paste each url here. Or paste them after clicking the little 'insert picture' button in the reply box. It looks like a little picture of a tree. It goes... smiley face, metal links, picture of a tree, envelope, speech bubble etc.

When you click on the picture it'll pop up a little box which says image url. You just paste yours in there.

Hope that makes sense.
