Hi All
A few months ago I set up a 220Ltr freshwater tank for small fish, shrimp and lots of plants.
Iv never used Co2 before but decided to make my own and its working well.
My question is this....
How do I ensure enough oxygen for the fish without loseing my Co2 ?.
I will soon be adding a fluidized sand filter along side my external filter and I understand
that this could make things even worse for the fish.
Iv been toying with the idea of injecting air into the fluidized sand filter as this will help the bacteria as well as the fish.
Any advice much apreciated

So you have a DIY yest base Co2 system?

You need to buy a Co2 drop checker to monitor the level of Co2 in your water.

You want to aim for around 30 ppm of Co2 in your tank.

I would not go over 35-40 ppm, at which point you will stat gassing the fish.

If one has no Co2 injection, and there is an adequate amount of surface agitation, the Co2 in a tank then is around 8 ppm or so.

Hi fatheadminnow
Thanks for the advice.I do have a drop checker on its way but to be honest Im more concerned about the oxygen levels than Co2.
My diy Co2 system is yeast based and doesnt produce huge ammounts, also I disconect it at night.
Iv been limiting the amount of surface distrubance to limit Co2 loss and this makes me worry about the oxygen levels.

If you don't exceed 30 ppm of Co2, then your oxygen levels will be just fine.

But you still need some surface agitation to keep oxygen in the tank.
