as title, current ones run out - i normally purchase the nutrafin hagen aqua plus, is there any better ones on the market or is this fine?

thanks

i use POND dechlor. does the same job as aquarium dechlor, but is super concentrated so you only use a TINY amount. Simply put, it's a great bargain!
good luck.

Seconded, buy pond dechlorinator, pond doctor/kockney koi, 10mls does 750Litres, will last for ages :good:

Or if you don't want to use pond stuff get seachem prime - also use tiny ammounts.

I've been using API for years. It's a basic dechlorinator and removes chloramine and heavy metals without adding additional, and unneeded, ingredients. And, the price is right! :D

thanks for replies

wheres the best place to buy it from? any links?

thanks

Seachem is cheapest on ebay - I get the 500ml and it lasts ages even for my many tanks, you'd probably manage with the smallest bottle for 1 average tank think it is 125ml?

The API tap water conditioner is the only one I can find that doesn't have aloe vera in it - including pond dechlorinator. And I can only find one shop that sells it. It also lasts ages. The dosage is 1 drop per US gallon for chlorine, 3 drops for chloramine.

Why does everything else contain aloe vera - including API stress coat, the widely available API dechlorinator?

Aloe vera. In the 1980s, gel derived from the subtropical succulent Aloe vera experienced a faddish popularity phase where it started to appear in some of the unlikeliest consumer products. Aloe vera gel has a numbing effect on the nerve endings in human skin, so it's genuinely welcome in the kitchen to soothe minor burns. Its gel keeps damaged tissues from drying, and to that extent Aloe vera "promotes healing." It has never had any legitimate use in aquariums, where drying of tissues is scarcely an issue. None whatsoever. Pure marketing.

Why would you want it?

My guess is because aloe vera takes up precious space, meaning that you will have to add more to do the same job as one without aloe.

They basicailly use it to dilute the stronger concentrated form, and charge a premium price for something you don't "need" anyways...
