I changed the substrate yesterday to sand to help keep my Cory’s safe and when I returned them back from the holding tank that had their tank water in it, one of my baby Cory’s eye looks really bad. I put some melafix in the tank but I think he’s be happier in the big tank than moving him to a hospital tank. He’s eating. But I was just curious if anyone has had this happen before because it’s killing me.

That's popeye. It's very painful, and is swelling and fluid buildup. It can cause blindness. It is caused by injury leading to infection. An antibiotic meant to treat infections in fish is recommended.

Okay thank you it says what I’ve been given him today treats Popeyes thank god. It’s starting to at least looking like healthier tissue and way less swelling!

I dont believe melafix does anything to cure popeye. If you don't see any improvement in the next day or so, you might want to try a remedy geared to treating popeye.

API says it does and his eye looks so much better than earlier.
Good deal! So happy to hear the treatment is working. Many will debate the real benefits of sand vs smooth gravel. I can say from personal experience, both sand and very small, smooth (rounded) gravel work well with Corys. They enjoy digging into sand and very fine gravel. Way to go thenaturalhales for providing your Corys with the best home possible! Just curious, was the sand new or 'seasoned' from another tank? Do tests indicate of your water parameters are safe?

What would you say the nitrate reading is? It needs to be as low as possible, over 20 is too high.
With an injured/ infected fish it is advisable to keep the water very very clean by doing large daily water changes.
Best wishes for the little cory.

Re Melafix, API would say it treats just about every ailment known to fish as they want to sell it. It's actually just melaleuca oil (aka cajeput oil and tea tree oil), an antiseptic useful for stopping wounds becoming infected but not for infections that have already set in.
