Hello im setting up another tank as i had to sell my old marine tank due to moveing :( !
This tank will be 36" x 24" 24" (L x H x W) with a sump that is (24"L x 18"H x 17"W) about 297 litre
what sort of size powerheads should i be using with this size tank? and what would be the best protein skimmer to get for this size?
thanks for your time and advice as im not really sure never used a sump before or had a bigger tank

Like most things it depends on how much coin your willing to drop. For the powerheads, maxi's would def work. Depending on your stocking and the amount of turnover you need, 2 to 3 maxi1200's would be fine in the main tank prob. But if you want to spend more for "better quality" pumps, Tunze are I think the preferred way to go. Prob 2 of their nano-streams would work good. You will get some flow from your sump return but some people have said that you shouldn't really count this in your turnover amounts.

As for the skimmer, I don't have really a recomendation as I have had only 1 marine tank and I don't use a skimmer, just do weekly H2O changes. Good Luck, and keep us updated

do you want to keep corals or only fish? Corals need lots of water movement whereas fish can get by with only a bit.
You will also need a pump to take the water from the sump and return it to the tank. Eheim hobby pumps are good for this. You want a sump pump that will turn your tank over at least 5 times an hour at the height of the tank. The higher the pump is the less water you get. So always go for a pump that is capable of doing the tank volume at the desired height.

Queen skimmers are cheap and effective. They sit inside the tank/ sump.
