OK so I saw this stunning CT at my lfs for $5.99 and immediately forked over the money ... very pretty!

The question for the betta experts is how should I prepare the tank for him?

I had a problem with the 10 g when I had a betta with fungus, and it's been sitting empty for about a month. So I just threw in a lot of aquarium salt and melafix to hopefully kill any evil things that might be left over. Also did this to an empty 2 g tank. Will that be ok to kill germs?

Next, how should I prep it? At most I plan on using a sponge filter, but should I do a cycle with a biowheel filter (i have a mini lying around)? Should I move the betta into the 2 g for now and then have him go into the 10 g later? (more fish coming soon).

Any advice on setting things up would be great! Even dumb stuff like recommended temp for the heater will work. I just don't want this beautiful fish to die!

Thanks! :D

I'd put him in the 2 gallon and leave him there.Do something else with the 10. A sponge filter should be fine.

The heater is up to you. How cold is your house, usually? If I DID use a heater I would set it at 74 if my house was a bit warmer. Just to avoid harsh night time temps ,if that even applies to you, here in Texas we stay at a steady 80+ indoors.

thanks wuv!

actually what i want to do with the 10 is divide it up. there are some plakats and nice splendens i'm thinking about  The lfs might also get some double tails on Saturday

problem with the 2 g is I have no lid, lights, etc - just the tank, and I might be able to fit the heater in there. I'm also a fan of live plants and not much will fit in it
