Advice Needed On Uv Lights

Now that I have pretty much everything running the way I want in my tank, I have thought about adding a UV filter replacing my emperior 280 biowheel. ( I think the Rena xp1 and penguin 350 can hold the fort down in my 55gallon). So I was wandering if there will be any advantages or disadvantages to using UV in your experiences?

UV kills off almost everything, so the disadvantage would in theory be that your fishs' immune systems weaken because there aren't any "germs" in the water.
