Never heard of it. Some males are just egg eaters. TSTB

It's just my opinion, but I think the biggest reason a male is an eggeater, is feeding it while it's in the spawn tank. By nature, the males usually stop feeding and concentrate on the nest. This is the reason for conditioning. You condition the female to produce the eggs, and condition the male to go without food while it tends the nest.
