Ok, my large fish tank currently resides on the top of 3 ikea tables, supported by a flat of 3mm plywood and 1/4" of polystyrene foam.

After reading a previous topic on a home made stand and hood, i'm encouraged to get my finger out and get my own proper one built too, and remake the hood.

however I have also read the recent post on levelling a tank. for the last 2 years, this tank has been about 5/8" out - so i'm wanting to be able to correct this.

however to make life much easier, I would like some form of adjustable feet to add to the cabinet.

any suggestions of pre-fab ones that could be used, or DIY form of being able to adjust the 4 corners of a stand?

I'm just thinking about this myself, as I am going to need to build a new stand for a tank that leaked, making it's exsting stand rotten, as I diden't dry it properly... The tank is now fixed and ready to get up and going again, but the stand isn't.

I've had a few ideas for DIY ones, one involving drilling a deap hole into the leg, then a shallower wider whole. Place a washer into the wider hole, and place a nut over the whole. Screw a bolt into the nut, and then place on one of those caster roller stopper thingy-whatsits (note, not their acctual name :hyper: ). To level, screw in or out the bolt... Not very fancy, but I think it would work... The whasher spreads the weight of the tank over a greater area than just the nut, and the wider hole will need to be just less wide than the leg to avoid pressure cracking when you fill the tank. The caster roller stopper thingy-whatsit will spread the pressure from the tank weight over a larger floor area, hopefully avoiding damage to the floor...

I'm going to be interested in other peoples replys to this...

I would shy away adjustable feet on anything but an all metal stand.... theres a MASSIVE load on these points, and how often do you need to change them anyway ?
When I make wooden stands, I build them insitu and trim accodingly, a cm of polystyrene under the tank takes care of small "booboo's" !
I try to get as much contact with the floor as possible (on top of carpet if neccessary) to spread the load .... especially on wooden floors, where 4 small feet would sink over time.
Cannot remember when I sited a tank that was not against a wall...so I put a couple of long screws, with washers, into wallplugs through the uprights of the stand to hold it against the wall - I doubt it would tip forwards, but having young children.... These screws fit through vertical slots, as its surprising the amount of settle a stand does when the tank has half a ton of water in it !

When I was younger, I had a metal stand that stood on plastic cones... each about an inch across at the floor, this was only a 30 inch tank, but left circles on the floor boards after a couple of years.
