Does it cause too much stress to have bettas in adjacent compartments with clear separators?
I just have clear plexiglass in to make up 3 compartments in my 10 gallon tank. I have several different silk plants in each compartment as well as hamster t-tubes for each one so I guess that would qualify as good coverage for them.
They don't seem to be stressed. The flaring never gets vicious, no head butting or anything like that. They don't flare all day long, although some do like to spend a long time at it. Certain ones seem to egg each other on. It's funny, they pair up as flaring buddies sometimes. The middle guy will ignore the guy on one side but spend lots of time flaring at the other guy. I'm assuming they enjoy it. I try to put the ones that like flaring next to each other and the more timid bettas on an outside compartment with lots of plants so they can get away from it all.
Is all this this enough? Should I get something that obscures their view of each other a bit more? If so, what?
I really like the way it looks being clear but I'll do whatever's best for them. What do you think?

If no bettas are acting oddly, then I'd leave the setup how it is. They sound very happy. :)

If it gets too much, I believe some people here use 'plastic canvas' to divide their tanks.

Plastic canvas would make it harder for them to see each other.
I think if you have plants and the hamster things it'll be fine as they have a place to hide in case they don't want to deal with the other bettas.

as a cheap alternative I use just a cut up ice cream container. now here in Australia they come as hard plastic, and there is a lip where the lid attaches to the main container. assuming it's the same... that seems fine for my bettas, i just cut the lid to size and use the lip of the lid as the easy way of keeping it at the surface. It completely cuts out the visuals so they can get some rest!!!
