Hello, I'm new and I've had my ADFs for around a month I have two in a 3 gallon tank. When I bought them they were in a "premade ecosystem" but the tank was only a half gallon and they had no where to hide so I moved them into a more natural home. They came with a small snail when I purchased them but it died within around 3 weeks. I replaced it with a black mystery snail and the frogs did nothing but pick on it! I didnt understand. They picked on it so much it never came out of its shell and it died. I just bought a gold mystery snail and the same thing kept happening so I took it out and put it with my betta. Help? Why all the sudden do my frogs hate snails? They didn't hate the first one? Thoughts?

I'm guessing the first snail was a ramshorn or something. Apple snails have much longer antennae which the frogs(who have very poor eyesight)just think are prey items and snap at them. They really shouldnt be kept together. Also if and apple snail shuts its trapdoor quickly it can trap a frogs leg in there with similarly nasty results.

If you'd like a snail in there, nerites could be an option as they tend to keep their very short antennae under the shell, they're just rather sensitive and you have to make sure you get a species that is freshwater. Pond snails/ramshorns could be another choice if you don't mind having a bunch, and you can get ramshorns in several colors.

I would absolutely love to keep some sort of snail with my frogs, but Idk where to find them. Petsmart only has mystery snails. I'll have to check my local pet stores, and my boyfriend says his old hometown had a huge aquatic pet store so maybe I can ask them, unless anyone knows a place close to Burlington New Jersey so find those types of snails?

There are some issues. That tank is too small for a mystery snail. That tank is two small for 2 ADFs, sure its better then their original housing but that still doesn't make it right. That tank is too small for nerites. Only snails you can fit in are "pest" snails. That tank should be used to keep a single ADF or perhaps as a spawning tank, pest snail food farm if you have snail loving fish or a shrimp only tank. Is it a tall, cube or long tank?

It's a long tank, and all the research I've done says have 1 gallon for each ADF.

I have 3 ADFs and a apple snail in a 5 gallon, and except for one incident where a froggie mistook the antani for a worm, they have been getting along great for as long as I've had them! However I've only had them 8 hours, so,,,, :hyper:

A 3 gallon long is fine I was expecting it to be a cube in which case it would be too small. It is difficult to go by gallonage as you can get all sorts of tank shapes thus you could have a tank which is a vertical tube.

That tank is too small for an apple snail they require 10 gallons or more it will try and escape a lot to try and move to a better environment.
