So anyone know anything about the compatability of african dwarfs and firebellied newts? If you read my other thread you know that i turned my 10g into a "swamp" (ok its starting) well I put my adf's in with my new newt and thought evrything would be ok...(same temp, diet...etc) well I noticed what looked like a burn on the belly of 1 adf and on the hind feet of anyother...i removed all 4 (2 to the hospital with a dose of melafix, 2 to there original tank...is this common?? (I know newts are posinous, but what i read i got the impression that they were not really harmful) and if so how would it affect fish...I wanted to set up a cool water tank...but i dont want any fish getting hurt...( or other amphibs.) Thanx in advance

I've never kept them with newts before so can't really comment on that but I have found keeping ADF's in a species specific tank is best. Like you mentioned and already know, newts give off a toxin that could possibly harm your ADF's.

A lot of community fish that are otherwise calm seem to nip at ADF's and compete too much for the food and since ADF's eat off the bottom it's harder for them to compete. So I wouldn't recommend any fish. I've even seen goldfish nip and harass at them before.
