I tried this yesterday! tried putting it in gently using a bowl! it didn't work  the sand misted the water a lot but the fish didnt care, it is gone now and they are fine

I put some sand in a bowl and put in on the bottom of the tank before pouring it out, so it didn't stir it up as much.

Fill a plastic bottle up with the sand, submerge it slowly and then close to the bottom of the tank, tip it upside down.

Tried that?

Wash the sand, wash it again, and again. Now it will still cloud up your tank but the mist will not hang round for more than about 24hrs. If the sand is clean, the mist/cloud is minimal.

PS: Filter floss is your friend

I used a cup, lower into the water and then slowly pour out. Took forever in my 55g though
You'll get cloudy water for a few days but it'll pass and is harmless to the fish, so i think?

large measuring jug, tbh, using a bottle and turning it upside down causes a nightmare as the sand "glugs" out like water does when you pour it from a bottle.

It only 'glugs' if you have it over an inch or two above the bottom. A measuring jug would be worse, sand falli g from a bigger height would surely cause more of a disturbance.
