not new to fishkeeping but wanted to know if it is safe to use rocks fom my driveway in a fish aquarium....I know they must be boiled then cooled first but not sure of the process to do it safely
I've always been told to pur boiling water over the rocks and let them soak and also to pour on vinegar, if you hear or see fizzing then it has certain chemicals on that will be no good in your aquarium.
vinegar would work......fish volcano lol
I may just boil the rocks for 30 min then put in the oven then reboil....then i'll try the vinegar thing....does it come off easy so i dont fizz my fish?
Boiling the rocks is probably quite enough. Strange and dangerous things can happen when you start to "roast" aquarium- bound rocks and wood in your oven. I wouldn't chance that. Just boil them thoroughly and follow the advice from The Wolf's link on what kind of rocks to use (or not).
