I bought some bulbs for my tank and they say just to put them in the tank and they sould start to sprout in a few weeks, but the said not to do it on a clan tank because there is no nutrients to help them grow.

I had my tank going for a few days, how long should i wait or is it ok now?

This would be an ideal time to have a nitrate test kit since that is the nutrient used by the plants to grow.

What are your current water parameters?

I testes for ammonium and it read to close around zero, just about dead on. I am going to try and go to petsmart or petco tomorrow and try and pick up a nitrite and nitrate testing kits.

Hoping my nitrites arent to high but so far i am just happy with the ammo. test.

odds are if your ammo is zero or nearly zero then your nitrites are either high or also leveled off. I would say its safe to plant the bulbs. As the nitrite is processed it'll suply them with food.

thanks again? Also who ofter should i clean out the tank such as vaccume gravel and walls if at all. ALso i hear people talking about cleaning out there filters. Are you supposed to do that? I thought that you wrent because of the good bacteria? ALso when vaccuming out gravel will it take the good bacterial out? Trying to get the majority of my questions out now than waiting for something bad to happen.
