I know this might sound like a silly question, but is it OK to wash new ornaments in tap water then put them in the tank or would you wash them in the current tank water (taken out of the tank first of course? Same goes with silk plants?)

TIA

There are no silly questions if you do not know.

Personally I wash my new ornaments and items in normal tap water let them dry then put them in the tank I have never had any problems doing it this way.

However if your uncertain then just get a bucket of fresh tap water and add some dechlorinate then wash your ornaments.

The most important thing with new ornaments is to remove any sharp edges and block of small wholes that fish may get trapped in this can be done by filling with aquarium safe silicone or stuffing filter foam in the wholes which is what I do :good:

I hope this helps.

:good: Much appreciated, I don't have filter foam as I have a Biorb :)blush:) but I can use the silicone if I find any small enough holes.

Thanks
