This is a quick question. When is it okay to add live rock? Should a tank be cycled before I add some?

I also read from somewhere that if you add enough live rock, live sand, and a good filter that you can start having fish in 3 days instead of the normal 5 or 7 days for the nitrogen cycle.

wait for water salinity to be right and temp right then add live rock and l.sand then wait for or stats to go 0 this means ur tank is cycled then add 1/2 fish every other week then add coals after a month of running roughly (summin like that)

cycle can be days or weeks ur just gonna have to wait rely

hope this helps

As already stated, get salinity/sg correct and temp, plus get your heater and powerheads working OK, then add your LR. Try to get all your LR at once to avoid mini cycles when adding new LR, then make sure you have all the necessary test kits (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, alkalinity, ph to start with) and monitor levels. Post your levels up on here and we'll let you know when its cycled and ready for your cleaner crew.

Have you got a skimmer? If so, start that when the LR goes in.

Keep us posted.

I wont be able to get all of my live rock at once heh. I just called up the local fish store and they got an order of 100 pounds of live rock that they will have for sale in 2 days. I dunno, I don't ask heh.

I will keep my tanks log updated very oftenly for personal benefits (I tend to lose paper but not vitual paper) along with that I get get suggestions since this is my first marine tank. The link to my log is in my siggy.
