I went for a 3 weeks with 6 fish and the levels looked good.

I added 4 fish a couple days ago and the ammonia is up to 0.25.

When do I need to do a water change? now or at 0.50.

Do I need to skip a day of feeding or just feed less food?

They all seem happy.

Thanks.

I would feed less and perform a 50% water change/gravel vac.

Keith.

Did 20% water. No feeding today.
Will watch ammonia and nitrite.

Thanks!!!

Yep, sounds like you're doing the right thing. As a 'general' rule you never want to double your stock in one trip to the store because your filter will contain about enough bacteria for your current stock, but if you do in this case, just be sure to monitor your stats for the next week or two and change the water as needed.

Keep testing daily and dont be lulled into a false sense of security! You need those levels to stay at 0 consistantly - you may find they go up again as 3 weeks is not long tanks usually take between 6-8 weeks to fully cycle.
