Adding External Filter

im planning on adding an external filter to my juwel vision 180 tank, what happens next ie can i just add it in nd turn it on or does it need some media from my other filter, plz help

personaly i would add the external and keep the other one running give it a few weeks and take the internal one out and monitor the water.
