when you add a clay pot to your tank what needs to be done to it? just test it with vinegar and give it a good scrub?

That's all I do! Some people bake them in the oven, or soak them in tank water overnight, but it's really personal preference. Personally I have found that neither is necessary, but thats just IME!

I would suggest sanding any rough or sharp edges off
i have afew pots and bricks that i have broken to give them a better more cave like shape. I always take tons of care to sand down any sharp and rough peices of pot after breaking them and wash them lots to ensure no dust or other unwanteds are still on the pot.

they give a cool effect, i have one of those pots with holes on the sides to allow a creeping plant to grow out of the sides of the pot. I took it and cracked the bottom off ( which will now be the top), used a grinder and made a cave-like entrance at the top ( which will now be the bottom) and sanded all the cracked areas, grinded bottom entrance and already made holes so that my puffs , plecs and corys cant hurt themselves.

i have yet to add it to my tank but it looks great already!

Mind if i ask how do you do a vinegar test on a pot? I just picked up 3 4" clay pots for 47 cents for all of them....(now thats what i call cheap) but how do i know if they are safe to put into an aquarium?

for the vinegar test you just put a few drops of it on the pot and if it fizzes its not the pot is no good...i think if it fizzes it means theres too much calcium which is bad for the tank not 100% though but i think thats what its for
