Well, I went to the local Wal-Mart with my b/f cause he decided he should upgrade his bettas to a split 10 gallon. We just went to get some gravel, filter stuff and decor, but ended up with a lot more.

We were looking at plants and gravel, trying to figure out what would bring out the color/ not wash out the color in his bettas best so we held some stuff up to the bettas for sale that had the same colors. Well that's when I noticed a little "steel" blue guy that looked like a Crowntail. I held his cup up and realized that while his tail does spike some, it also had quite a bit of damage from what looked like nipping. I couldn't bear to just let the little guy sit there in his own waste and misery, so I stuck him in the cart. Well, putting him in the cart led to me getting a new 5 gallon tank, which led to new gravel, decor, etc....

...$50 bucks later, he's sitting in the 5 gallon aclimating here on my desk. I'm bout to set him free, so I'll post pictures here in a minute.

The addiction begins.... :D :D

Here he is!
By the way, the color matching was unintentional. I just used whatever my b/f wasn't going to use in his tank.

By the way again, what should I be putting in the water to aid his hurt tail? I'm new to this whole damaged fin thing.

Anyway, here he is.

Aw what a handsome little man!
I am very new to all this as well but I belive salts are one thing you can do to help. Also that spikey blue plant, if its not soft you may want to remove it as your bettas fins can be damaged by it.

Thank you FishyLoveBug!

SuckerLove86- He is a real cutie, I think some salt would help. But I know someone will come along and tell you about some medications that they use. I am also pretty new to the fish world. :D

beautiful betta! and matching colors

I just have one betta, but I know the feeling of wanting more. :)

I want more as well. Trying to learn as much as possible so I dont end up with a bunch of dead ones and a broken heart. lol

Salt will do wonders and also Melafix if you can get it. It helps re-generate growth in fins. Keep the water super duper clean and he should recover

Lovely Betta

Melafix will work. Since you bought the tank new and it isn't cycled (you may be able to get some established media from your b/fs tank to speed the cycling) you need to keep a close eye on the ammonia and nitrite levels. If those start to spike, it will add to his tail problems. I rescued 2 bettas from WM a while back myself and had to do the same thing for one of them since I only had one empty tank. If you have any live plants to add to it, that will help with the cycling also. You will probably have to do pretty regular water changes too until the tank cycles.

How lucky is that little guy
You have the walmart rescue addiction going already.

I don't buy anything there anymore but sick fish because I'm pissed about how they treat their fish, but I still buy the fish. They need people like us to take them home and love them.

As for that spikey plant - i'd probably take it out.
When I first got Harvey, he had one identical to that one. Blue and everything.
He loved to rest in it, but when I'd walk to his tank, he'd get very excited to see me, and take off to come over and play, and his tail would get caught on it :( I had to take it out.

But he's gorgeous.
Salt should help you out with the tail.
It should be growing in rapidly very soon!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm going to pick up some melafix today, and he has just a pinch of salt in his tank. He already seems a lot more active than when I first got him. I've also replaced the spikey blue plant with a silk one from one of my established thanks, so that *should* help a little with they cycle but I added some gravel in a filter media bag too.

TTF = love
