Acrylic

Can I just use thin acrylic cut to size as a cover for my tank? I need to get some anyway to split one of my tanks and will have quite a bit left over so thought I could just use this instead of buying individual condensation trays.

I am just getting the acrylic/perspex from B&Q, I assume it will be OK to split the tank, any advice?
