so i have started to look for another tank and wondered what peoples opinions and prefrences were between acrylic and glass tanks is it true that acrylic is more clear than glass ???

I have 2 tanks with with each. Glass is definitely superior, the acrylic will get minor scratches from sand etc.

Great explanation there mate :good:

acrylic- lighter when empty, wont smash if you drop a rock into it when aquascaping. Scratches very easily, can stress craze over time if poorly heat formed during manufacturing, UV light makes it go yellow over long periods of time. If it does crack it's curtains for the tank.

glass- heavier when empty, wont scratch as easily, broken panes can be easily replaced. Can be resealed and effectively will last forever if looked after.

The only time I would consider using acrylic is if I had a HUGE tank. Any pro the acrylic tanks have is negligible compared to glass. Glass is clearer, cheaper, less likely to scratch and doesn't bow. All those more important than "not weighing as much" as glass.
