I've been toying with the idea of switching to acrylic for ages but when I downsized decided to get a Juwel Reckord 60 because it seemed like a good deal at the time. Apparently it was in 'very good condition' and came with 'a new filter'.
So I bought it...apparently covered in scratches=very good condition.... and the new filter was an undergravel filter powered by a noisy pump. Not only do I not like undergravel filters anyways but they're also incompatible with my substrate.

Long story short is that I downsized because the tank needs to be mobile twice a year. Once when I go to uni in September and second when I come back for 3months during the summer break. As I'm not too happy with my current tank I'm back to thinking why don't I just get a custom acrylic one built.

Is it particularly hard too do myself? Is it significantly cheaper to do myself? And could you point me to custom builders, particularly if you've used them before.

Acrylic can be a right pain to work with if you're not experienced. Using glass is much easier.

As for price, there are lots of cheap tanks about, I doubt you'll beat them by going diy unless you're going for something above 75G

I'd say stick with glass for your needs, if you are moving a tank about quite a bit there is more chance of an acrylic tank getting badly scratched

Finding a GOOD small acrylic tank might be tricky too

Well I have a quote on a 60l acrylic tank made by fistafiltration @ £100. I've said I still want to think about it cause I'm not sure. I think I probably will stick with glass, I've changed the planting in my tanks so there are very few plants in the actual substrate and those that are aren't big rooting plants so I might just cut down on how much gravel/sand I have in there, it'd certainly make transporting it easier.

I know that Trent Plastics at Gainsborugh have made tanks in the past
I have used then for other acrylic related stuff and they are very reasonably priced.
