i want to know if acrylic is better or glass and the price$$$$

It's a matter of personal preference. Acrylic is lighter in weight, but does have a tendancy to scratch easier than glass and I think it's much more expensive than glass, but not too sure about that.

Acrylic will not crack
Acrylic will not leak
Acrylic is lighter then glass
Acrylic will scratch but can be removed vary easily
Acrylic can be drilled into vary easily for equipment
Acrylic does cost more but worth it (IMO)
Some Acrylic tanks have a lifetime warrantee

IMO Acrylic is all around better then glass

Hazmat :D

From what I've heard, it's only worth the money to go for acrylic if you're buying a larger tank (100 gallons and up basically). If I had the money, I would buy acrylic. That is because I worry a lot about leaks and cracks and with an acrylic, I wouldn't have to worry (acrylic is about 17 times stronger than glass). The only downside I've heard of is that it's way easier to scratch.

acrylic is more expensive and lighter, but it scratches soooo easily, thats the bigest downside!

glass is less stornger, but will never scratch

its up 2 u, theyre both good in their own ways

It does scratch, but i have a scratch remover kit that works great. I have only used it once in the past year. If your careful with your tank you wont need to use it :D

Are the acrylic tanks all in one moulded units? The only thing I ever worry about with glass tanks is all that weight resting on puney little silicon sealant.... how it all stays together is beyond me.

I have 2 glass and 2 acrylic tanks. I personally like the acrylic, but the glass is good too. It's pretty much up to your pesonal preference.

I have always hated the way acrylic looks at resturants n fancy places. I guess it might be different at home if you can take the scratches out... but I have never tried. If I was to get a tank larger than 120g I would look into acrylic.

Hi there,

I've had both.

I had the 6 gallon Esclipe acrylic tank and it was really good but when I went larger .. they didn't sell them in Australia so had to go glass.

I find them both good but I gave my husband the old acrylic tank and he has really scratched it up and it now looks terrible.

IF you are really careful with gravel cleans and putting in decorations etc then it would not be a problem. If you are more heavy handed .. go glass.

Hope that helps.
