Hi everyone,

I tested my water yesterday and it read 6.2 on the pH level

Whats an easy and cheap way to raise the pH to 7?

I heard that baking powder works but I don't want to risk it.

Thanks

What is your tap waters PH? if its nearer 7 then you could be slipping on the tank maintenance, of course I know you wouldnt do THAT!!!
So if it is nearer 7 from the tap, small max 10% water changes every day will help. Also try and find out the hardness of your water, if its soft, the PH will slide alot faster so you need to keep an eye on it. I personally wouldnt recommend using any chemical or product to raise or lower the PH, if its 6.2 from the tap, which is unlikely I think as most water companies try to raise it to neutral to avoid corroding pipes, then consider species that thrive in this PH like some south american or west african species.

try geting some coral gravel and put a tiny ammount in your filter this should raise it but monitor it closley

Why do you want your pH to be higher? Most popular tropical fish prefer acid water. If you have African cichlids or something that really needs an alkaline water, add coral sand and tufa rock to the tank.

I'd strongly recommend leaving well alone when it comes to pH. Oh, and I'd die to have a natural pH of 6.2 - my rummy-noses would just love it!

My pH is 6.2 and my fish do just fine. You'll stress them more by trying to change the PH than by leaving them in a pH thats less than perfect. If I were you, I'd leave it alone.
