Hi,
Have recently purchased a fish tank about 55 gallons. The water is always changing to acidic. I am regularly doing a water change about weekly roughly 40 litres yet the water is acidic after a week

What fishes do you have in that tank? Is acidity a problem? Too many fishes often drop pH. What is your kH? By increasing the kH your pH would be more stable.

You need to tell more facts about your tank.

Hi, I have 2 catfish about 5 inches in length, 3 Guarminis about 2inches, 1 Guppie and 2 apple snails. (who incidendly have just laid eggs)

Within the tank are a few plants and a couple of large rocks, bought from an aquiriam. The tank has gravel on the bottom, about an inch.

And what is your pH? Catfishes and gouramis like acidic water, guppys and apple snail dont. Overstocking is not the reason for your low pH. If your water is naturally acidic, maybe you could give guppys to someone that has alkaline water and you could take some new fishes that like acidic water, most of fishes do.

Personally I find guppys, platys and mollies hard fishes to keep because our water here in finland turns always acidic because it is so soft.
