I bough a big-ish soft coral the other day. Started to drip it in like normal. I went into the other room and came back 20mins later to find the air vlave had come off so a whole bucket of water had been dumped on the coral in a short space of time. Its in the tank but hasnt opened up at all in the two days since i bought it,

its a pussey coral btw. im hoping it wil fill a agp at the back of the tank. anyone any tips on flow and placement?

Pussy coral is really Temperamental, mine sulks for days if he gets moved or something touches it (you wouldn't believe how much it can shrivel up)- I wouldn't worry I have come to the conclusion they are pretty hardy corals. They seem to like a fairly fast flow but don't seem that concerned about bright light :good:

That would be a luxuray acclimation for most of works corals. typically, they get floated for 20mins and then dumped in. This applys to everything, and most things are out and feeding the following day...

I'm shure your's will be fine if they cope well with being drop acclimated :good:

I hope so, cheers guys.
Will be back to the drawing board on filling a big gap if it doesnt make it.

thats really poor all the LFS round here are really carefull when acclimatising anything be it hermits or snails to corals and fish! id be very worried about doing that or seeing it as its not a good practice.

Ben

Pussy coral likes a high flow rate and is not overly bothered by amounts of light, it will close up if anything touches it but usually comes out pretty quickly, a few days is nothing to worry about at the moment, but a few things i would do is just make sure water quality is where it should be, definately do not feed it any coral food/phyotoplankton as a stressed coral does not need it, and just place it in a high flow area and leave it there, then jsut monitor it is all you can do and ask questions should you get no results soon.

While not ideal, with just one member of staff working the fish room on the busiest weekday that co-insides with the arrival of the marine order it's a case of throw them after 20mins of floating or leave them overnight... The latter would most likely kill them. Throwing them in will do no harm to a healthy colony IME, provided the salinity is identical when measured with a refractometer, it's only sickly corals that seem to struggle with it... These would probibly struggle with drip or dip acclimation anyway, I would argue...

Pussey corals are nice. We will need pictures later :shifty:
