Hello everyone. I'm in the process of setting up a heavily planted Dutch style tank (BioCube 8g - link in my signature). I plan on stocking it with one (maybe two - and I stress maybe) dwarf puffer, Carinotetraodon travancoricus. For those of you with knowledge of the little guys, how viable would it be to feed them marine food? I currently have several reef tanks that I feed mysis and brine (both live and frozen), as well as oysters and silversides. I read in the puffer guide that mysis and brine are fine, but it didn't mention silversides (diced of course) or oysters (diced as well). Would these be a good food source as well? Also, my tanks breed dwarf cerith snails like crazy. Would they be a potential food source for puffers? The snails themselves are inter-tidal, often occurring in river deltas and marshes where they live in both fresh, brackish and saline environments, so I don't think they would be a problem. Just wandering if anyone had any experience with this or could shed some light on it. Thanks in advance!

Hi, my DP's love live Brine shrimp and would live on them if they could! The snails you speak of should be fine as long as they have had a good soak in fresh water before hand, I'm not to sure that a belly full of salt would be a good thing for a DP! It varies from fish to fish, mine have never gone for mussel or cockle but will take bloodworm and live mysis.
By the way...two should be fine in your tank as you say it is heavily planted.

Awesome. I appreciate the response! It will definitely be heavily planted, as it's a "Dutch" style tank. Lots and lots of plants! I'll definitely be sending brine and mysis their way. I'll test them out on oysters and be sure to let everyone know. That's a good idea about soaking the snails - I'll keep them in fresh water at least a day or more before adding them into the tank.
