Hello members,

I rescued this abused peacock from a LFS that does not do a good job of caring for some of their fish about 6 weeks ago. I thought someone might give me some help in identifing what he is. He was in a tank housed with tiger oscars that were much bigger than him, under fed and just in poor shape. I'm not sure of the exact species, (or could be a hybrid) but he is turning out to be very beautiful as he has been in a rehab tank getting the attention he deserves. I figure another six months of TLC and he can go in the 125 with the other peacocks and haps.

Kudos to you as well. I just cant stand to see fish, (and animals) not being cared for. This is not the first fish I have saved nor will it be the last....my wife thinks I'm a little crazy...

Thanks! That forum link will come in handy to ID some fish. Your signature pic is pretty cool!

 Thanks, got a thing for fantasy art...
That site is great and I use it quite a lot when researching fish.

nice fish. When you say you 'rescued' it did you pay any money?

Not wanting to put a dampener on things but odds are that more fish will be bought to fill the gap, introducing more fish to a LFS that doesnt seem to know what its doing... the fact that the fish was kept in bad conditions seems to have been the catalyst for you to buy it.

I gave the store owner $2.00. I do not buy fish from this store anymore but he has some great prices on supplies and dry goods. In fact, I don't sell him my mbunas that are breeding like crazy anymore as there are a few retailers near by that actually take better care of their fish. Below is an electric blue I "rescued" from his shop about nine months ago. When I got him, he was very skinny, barely had a tail and anal fin and was covered in fungus. The result of being in with Red Snooks and Green Terrors. I asked one of the employees to give me the fish to rehab and they did. They would have just disposed of the fish which is a shame. All life is precious.
