I'm quite certain I'm about to have convict fry. Because of the way they have dug under one of my stacks of pots and where the female goes when she goes under there, I can't see anything. They are usually the first one to get to the top to eat and last night male and female waited at the bottom of the tank for the food to sink and the female made a brief appearance to grab a couple of morsels and headed right back under the stack.

So, is there a pinned topic or has anyone got a good reference on how to raise the fry, what and how to feed, etc.?

Thanks.

Spawning conditions can be easily brought about by the feeding of brine shrimp and bloodworms. Spawning takes place in a cave or on a previously cleaned, flat rock. The eggs are guarded by both parents. The fry are free-swimming 6-8 days after hatching. The parents continue brood care for 3-4 weeks, although commercially bred parents are less protective of their free-swimming fry. Start feeding with microworms, Artemia nauplii, and fine grade dry food. You can also feed finely crushed flake food. Put the food into a plastice baggy and run a rolling pin over it until it is a fine powder. Good luck!!! Get us some pics. ;)

Thanks Impur. I'm so tempted to move the stack of pots so I can see if there are indeed eggs in there. I assume this would be a bad idea. Will the very finely ground flakes sink quickly enough to get to the fry?

i raise betta fry and lobster fry
normal fry livebearers will eat crushed flakes but the best thing to do is but liqifry no.1 which is a drop type thing which ou put 2 drops off it in it a liquid wit all the nutriouns needed for them to have a good chance off living and makes it healthy for thr future and brings out their colour

I'm assuming that would require separating the fry from the main tank which I hadn't planned on doing.

I didn't intend on breeding the convicts. I bought two very small cons and lo and behold they turned out to be male and female.

Survival of the fittest. Of those that survive, I'll perhaps keep 2 or 3 and donate or get credit for the rest at the lfs.

Thanks.
