There is a petstore near here that has a beautiful Ryukin for around 12.00, it is around 3-5 inches in length with beautiful fins, color and alround perfection that I've ever seen in a goldfish. The only draw back for me would be that this would be the only thing that I'd be able to fit in my 55 gallon and I like more than one type of fish. I have an Aqua Clear 110, would have filter pool sand as substrate and probalbly have drift wood in it also with other rock. Question is what is your all opinion, is this filter enough, are they really as nasty as they say and what would I put into the tank to take care of algae?

if im right in saying ive just worked that out a t about 200L, if so thats plenty of room for the fish (allowed growing time) and another simlar fish (i personally recommend a pearlscale,i love them!)

algae eater for algae probs.should be okay providing tank isnt in direct sunlight

yeah you could get another goldie, preferably fantail shaped.

as for algae a bristlenose would work if the temp doesnt go below 20c

If you don't have algae then you don't need an alage eater of any sort. If it's on the glass just scrape it off with a razorblade.

55 gallons is fine for a Ryukin, as for a filter, the one with the most capacity/space for media, as goldfish are messy things. Many fish stores sell gudgeon in their coldwater sections, and white cloud mountain minnows are a pretty cold water fish. You could have a nice school of about 15 with the Ryukin. I'd get him if you have the space.
