I totally get that mollies can and will abort fri due to stress. I am not worried about the drop itself but rather why were the fri at so many different levels of development. A handul were fully developed while others only had eyes and still more were just eggs. Shouldn't the aborted drop all be in the same development stage at least? What's going on?

These are new bought dalmation mollies one that i put in a breeding trap. A week later she dropped. I am sure it was stress, no biggie. But why were they all at different stages? Inbrreding? What's going on?

Don't put them in breeding boxes, it stresses them which risks them aborting. Better to have floating cover for when fry are dropped and just net out the fry into a breeder box when you find them.

The thing with livebearers such as mollies is they can store sperm and use it as they want, and this doesn't mean every egg internally is fertilized at the same time, leading to different stages and then often may only "drop a few fry at a time" over the course of several days or even weeks.

What is a floating cover? Thanks.

Floating plants such as guppy grass, hornwort, wisteria, sprite, etc, even fake plants if necessary. Could even place fruit baskets that have holes too small for adult fish to fit through that offer refuge for fry up top. Most fry will be up top, so the more places to hide up top the better

I've breed live breeders since i was a kid and they have NEVER done what you're talking about. Yes they can store sperm for mutiple pregnancies from one breeding but i have never seen different stage fry in a single drop. I am trying to figure out what would have caused that. I've had live breeders abort before but NEVER multi stage fri. Also partial drops are not a thing in my experince. Nor have i ever read about that in any scientificly sourced book either

Also pls don't try to dictacte what people do with their own fish. Advising that putting them in breeding boxes stresses them and can cause an anortion is one thing. Talking down to somone and using dictitorial language is NOT ok

Whoa, not sure what you 'heard' in @CassCats post, every point of which I agree with and found not only to be correct but widely understood and accepted to be true in the hobby, but there was no 'dictating' going on. Just good, sound information and advice which you somehow found offensive.

And I'm sure you mean livebearers and not "live breeders."

Well, okay.

I don't think you will find people are going to want to interact with your posts if this is how you respond. Sorry that I seemed to have stepped on your toes somehow for simply stating facts and how to counter the situation with better outcomes. Especially when you, yourself, had even acknowledged stress.

Good luck and have a nice day, I will avoid this obvious landmine.

I have been a member of several fish forums, and I came to appreciate the more direct writing of people's knowledge as being easier to read than more verbose. Maybe its my ADHD syndrome.
CassCats was just clearly expressing her knowledge of experience, that is all.

✌🏼Peace and welcome aboard.

Wow what a complete over reaction. I don’t tend to post much as I’m still quite new to the hobby and can’t offer much yet, but I spent enough time browsing the forums to learn whose opinions to listen to and respect and cass is one of them.
By all means disagree but you seem to have completely misread the intention of the post. You’re not going to get along well here if this is how you blow up at someone just trying to help.
Chill out a bit!
