My female platy has fluffy white stuff on top of it's head and some its scales are protruding  . Is the fluffy white stuff fungus and the protruding scales dropsy? should i treat the fish with meds?

If the scales are sticking out it is dropsy, their is no cure once it has progressed, the fungus is probably a secondary infection.

Thx for the reply after 2 days :p do fungus and dropsy spread?

If you can move the fish to a hospital tank great, as it's olways best to take a sick fish out of the main tank, and issolate it just in case.

If the scales are sticking out then it is more than likely drospy. I dont think the fungus had anything to do with it.. Are they anyway you could post a picture??? It would help out a lot. Salt works well on fungus plus that will help your platy out. Salt does wonders on livebearers give it a salt bath and see if that helps with the fungus...

That happened to one of my big boy gups. I was cleaning the tank and my mom said she had seen a guppy laying around on the floor right where my vacuum was, then after a few minutes i found him swimming OK, but with a litle fin rot and the scales were starting to stand up. I didn't expect him to live very long, but I let him die in a small private tank. It only took a few hours, even though I gave him some melafix and extra strss coat and was thinking about what I might add next. Now I only have 2 boys left with delta tails. I think i had about a hundred a year ago. but I didn't count and most were not very big yet. I probably really had fewer than 50, but I thought I would have more for longer.
