ok i know that i already have a post here about my guppy (doing fine now thanx) but this is definitely an emergency, deserves its own topic, sorry if i annoy anyone.

so my angelfish - was fine yesterday, last night wasn't too active, i skipped a feed this morning coz i do that every thursday(ish), but he was just hiding behind a plant. didn't think too much of it, but just got home, put in a couple of new plastic plants (soaked in hot water, etc.), but even before that i noticed he was swimming around like a drunk, no control much over where he's swimming or nothing, now he's just resting against a plant looking very much like he's going to die!! AAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!! somebody please help me!! ph i've been trying to lower slowly over the past couple of days, hasn't worked too well, sitting on about 7.4. no ammonia or nitrites. not being picked on. don't know what else to tell u but please help me!! he's my favourite one :-(

no he's still lying in the same plant. nitrates r fine. temp's around 28 degrees (celcius)...... :-(

Gumby,
How are you trying to lower your ph? Has he been at that level for long? Maybe this is the issue. No expert here - perhaps others can help.

hiya, sorry 2 hear that he aint well!

rite,

do a 25% water change (makin sure that uve added tap safe 2 the water b4 u add it.)

go 2 the lfs get sum melafix this will help him become less stressed, and also help fight off infection, and is also made of natural ingredients such as tea tree oil.

frm wot uve sed, i think he may have started to lose his swim bladder. if this is wot is wrong with him, try and get sum medicine frm the lfs to treat swimbladder. but b4 u add it 2 the water or even pay 4 it, ask them if it will be ok with the melafix, as sum medicines dnt mix with it.

run the melafix treatment 4 7 days, not doing a water change on ne of these days, then on the 8th day dnt add the melafix, or do a water change. on the 9th day, do a 25% water change.

i hope this helps u. it is almost identical to the treatment i gave my gourami, and he is fine now!

Gud luck, keep us posted!

I would only do this if your other solutions don't work. I had an angel that was egg bound and laying at the bottom or resting on something else as you say. I made a mild soluton of aquarium sea salt and declorinated warm (80-85) water and poured it over her directly in the tank. After 2 or 3 washes she perked up and was fine. It is a quick electrolyte boost.

thanx for ur replies but he died last night, the poor little guy :byebye: . There were no external symptoms at all. i was trying to (very slowly) lower the ph because it'd been sitting on about 7.5 lately, basically since they started dying (starting with my krib about 3-4wks ago :( )actually & one of my mates who use to keep tropical fish for about 5 yrs told me i needed to lower it or they'd all die coz maybe that was the cause (i doubt it but u know, had to do soemthing). i don't think it's an internal parasite because i treated for that a while ago when my krib was really sick but it didn't help or or save anyone else, plus nobody's particularly skinny or bloated. i'm not sure about a bacterial infection because they've mostly seemed to have different symptoms. also, with swimbladder probs, don't they get bloated or something? i don't want to add salt because i've heard that could kill my snail. anyways, if anybody has any ideas so my remaining 4 don't die too, please let me know, i'm getting kinda desperate here......thanx everyone.
