Hey,

I recently wanted to buy a Tom Tom GPS system from Ebay, and to my massive shock came across some obvious dodgy dealings which people were still bidding for!

Let me give you a couple of examples...

Take a look at this guys feedback, and tell me whether you would trust him or not? Plus - a new Tom tom go for only just over a hundred euros??

con number one

This one, in my opinion, is even worse from the con artists part. Take a close look at all his feedback, 'one cent auctions' - means he is buying feedback - but what's worse is that he is in Australia - and apparently the item is in China!

Con number two

I just thought I'd warn you - don't bid for anything on Ebay unless the seller has legitimate feedback, for legitimate items. There are loads of these 'cons' about - especially for consumer electronics.

Regards,

Paul.

old ebay cons that some new ebayers get caught into.

This is a legitimate practice known as drop shipping, I have a friend who runs a business selling golf equipment and some of his products come this way. It means he doesn't have to actually physically purchase them and hold them in stock tying up both cash and space. Some of the stuff bought from him will be sent from a supplier in the UK, but some comes from China or Hong Kong.

However, both of those auctions look decidedly dodgy to me -_- , if buying from abroad I'd only use paypal and only if I am paying from my credit card rather than a balance. This way if it doesn't arrive I can claim via Paypal and if they won't get my cash back, my credit card company will

Apparently, once you've won the auction - they tell you that their paypal account isn't working or verified, making you use a different option that can't be re-claimed.

I know about drop-shipping, I just thought it made him look even more dodgy than the feedback and price. These are obviously rip-offs/cons.

My mom was recently selling some gameing stuff on ebay, and you wouldnt beleive how stupid some people are. We sold a broken x-box for $50 (which is what they were going for), we listed exactly what was wrong with it and what was going on that was prompting us to sell it. So some guy in canada bought it and then he started leaveing messages and bad feed back like he had no F'ing clue that the thing was broken. Do they read the auctions?

Just thought I'd sort your post out Aaron1.

And also, not all ebay sellers are dodgy - most are completely legitimate, I am only warning you to thoroughly check through feedback and other details of the seller before commiting any money.

I ended up warning people who were bidding on the dodgy tom-tom nav systems, plus I reported the sellers to Ebay which resulted in a few people thanking me for saving them 150 euros plus the sellers being banned.

My mate used to sell links to mobiles, he made £4,000 in a couple of months. He was only 15 at the time. Eventually he got caught out, and he then had a huge debt, luckily his parents are rich and bailed him out.
